we are a non profit
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which means every admission, membership, donation, sponsorship, and grant directly supports our mission to provide connect families in our community through play and discovery. Rather than generating profits for owners or shareholders, our resources are reinvested into exhibits, educational programming, outreach initiatives, accessibility efforts, and the daily operations that keep the museum welcoming, engaging, and affordable for families.
As a community-supported nonprofit, we rely on the generosity of donors, businesses, grant partners, volunteers, and visitors who believe in the importance of childhood, early learning, and family connection. This support allows us to expand access through scholarships, reduced-cost programs, free community events, outreach activities, and inclusive experiences designed to meet the diverse needs of children and caregivers across Interior Alaska.

make a gift through stocks or mutual funds
One of the best ways to maximize your giving is to give a gift of appreciated stock or mutual fund shares. This is especially helpful when you have seen gains in a stock you have held for a year or more. When you donate stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, you bypass capital gains tax! FCM gets the full value of the appreciated stock and you don’t have to donate all the shares of a stock you own. Talk with your broker about the amount you would like to donate and ask which shares in your taxable funds have appreciated the most.
give your required minimum distribution from your IRA
Your retirement funds can now go further than ever. If you are 73 or older, you can donate up to $100,000 of your Required Minimum Distribution annually from a traditional IRA to a charity, such as FCM, without incurring taxes today, or estate and income taxes in the future. If married, both partners can give up to $100,000 from each traditional IRA annually.
